Father listed as Dr. Spens Sr, as a witness for one of the children; In 1841 census of St. Mary's parish, Fm#1042788, age 75 with wife Bethia(60) and two children, Nathaniel (40) and Helen (20) at Drummond Place. Death given in Testamentor papers Fm# 500257; Film for IGI records 183514, p. 1190; Childen found in Edinburgh parish Records, GS. No 103048 marriages; christenings to 1822, #14505 pt 1098, 1100 Translator for Watkins/Shobert, Watt; James (1797-1870) recorded Thomas Spens, Doctor, as his father when he married Jane Gray. It is thought that this James's inheritance was usurped by James's half brother, Nathaniel Spens writer to the Signant, whose posterity subsequently became extinct.
