George Penfold and Sarah Woodham were married in St Nicholas Church Compton on the 23 May 1809. Mary Penfold( Bap. 1784, Puttenham), who was probably George,s sister, signed as a witness. For George it was his second marriage.
They had six children(3m and 3f) In the 1841 census they are found living in Puttenham running a very successful Carpenters and Wheelwrights. The business supports George their eldest son who is working along side his father. Sarah has died but George Samuel, Alfred and Elizabeth live with their father.
In the 1851 census Alfred, their second son is the master carpenter. He lives with his wife Caroline(nee Searle) and their nine month old daughter Ellen. His elderly father, George(age 74)lives with them and is still working for the business in Puttenham Street. Samuel, Alfred's brother is a carpenter/journeyman and lives with them also.
George has married Jane who is older than him and they also live at another house in Puttenham street.
In 1861, George is now 84, still working as a carpenter and living with Alfred's family in Puttenham Street. Samuel has married Frances Ellis, the sister of Thomas Butcher Ellis the licensed Victullar at the GoodIntent Inn. George dies somtime between 1861/1871 and Mary before 1841. Samuel has married Frances Ellis, the victuallar's daughter and lives at the Good Intent Inn in Puttenham Street.
